Cara Lytwyn, originally from Flin Flon, Manitoba, was first introduced to her love of comedy by forcing her family to watch her perform skits from Saturday Night Live. She found her stride in stand-up and performing through characters such as the obnoxious but lovable celebrity lawyer, Phil Cosgrove.
She first performed in the Winnipeg Comedy Festival in 2010’s Shock of the New Show, and 2015 marks her fourth WCF performance.
Lytwyn is the 2008 winner of Winnipeg’s Funniest Person with a Day Job, an annual stand-up comedy contest held at Rumor’s Comedy Club and is the first winner of Winnipeg’s Funniest Comic competition. Her comedy is populated with quick wit, fresh attitude and dynamic energy. She has been reviewed as “Furiously Funny” by UMFM Radio.
In 2007, Lytwyn produced her own stand-up comedy showcase featured in the Winnipeg Fringe Festival. In 2010, she was a featured performer in the Winnipeg Fringe Festival’s Tazzy’s Angels.
For the last five years, she has been invited to perform in the celebrated Winnipeg cabaret: Girls! Girls! Girls!, featuring a variety of talented female artists. Lytwyn was also a featured cast member of the popular alternative comedy showcase, Comedy Loser and she was selected to perform in Winnipeg’s 2010 Just for Laughs Showcase.
This year she is teaching a stand-up comedy writing class, entitled Finding the Funny, at Winnipeg’s Prairie Theatre Exchange. She is also a guest speaker for the seventh consecutive year for the Red River College Comedy Writing Class.
